A few weeks ago I was looking at laptops to take on the ship so I could update my blog and what not. I was strongly looking at getting a Dell until I accidentally went to mac’s website and started watching their sweet videos showing off their Leopard operating system. I was sold. However looking at the prices of entry level Macbooks I knew that I could not afford one. But rather than settling for a pc I asked God to give me a Mac, and I asked with a little itty bit of faith. I was confident God would hook me up and as hard as it was, I felt like He wanted me to wait on Him to provide.
I meditated on my mac throughout the week about how sweet it was going to be when I got one. So I went to church that Saturday night and afterwards when I was leaving I talked to a couple I knew. John randomly brought up how God had provided specific things for him in the past. I causually told him how I asked God to give me a mac that week and that I knew He was going to provide.
So John and Asina call me the next day and want to have lunch with me at Pannera bread to hear about my upcoming trip. As I was waiting by the door, John and Asina were getting something out of their trunk all suspicious like and I was thinking “what are they doing?”
Well, they gave me a freaking mac. Not just any old mac, a powerbook 17inch fat daddy mac. I was totally blown away. John said that he bought the mac in ‘04 and never really used it.
Not only did God provide, but He did it much faster than I expected and provided a much nicer laptop.
But, when I got home my flesh started to rise up a bit. “It’s too big to carry on a plane” “the processor isn’t the latest and fastest” etc etc. I had to rebuke my thoughts. After using it for a few weeks now I’m so happy to have such a big screen and it’s plenty fast for what I need it for. Picture above is a snapshot of my desktop.
Since then, I’ve been asking God for specific things. Not just material, but spiritual. I want more of His glory. I want more boldness. I want to be holy and pleasing to Him. I want to see His power displayed to the ends of the earth. I want people to be free. I want the gospel to be preached.
I really want to encourage you guys to ask God SPECIFICALLY for anything you may need. Jesus says that if we abide in Him we can ask for ANYTHING we want-John 15:7. Are you abiding? What does that mean for you? What decision do you need to make right now? Because of Jesus we can boldly approach the throne room Heb. 4:16 and receive everything we need in life.
As I was walking in the woods today I realized how much time I waste on the perishable things of this world, rather than the Kingdom of Heaven and my relationship with the Father that will continue forever. I felt pretty foolish and small. If we seek Him He promises to provide everything we could ever need-Matt. 6:33. Heaven is the reality, not this world. Let’s all make a decision to live like it. God will provide the strength and enable us to live for Him through the Holy Spirit.
God I pray right now that you would help us to seek you with all of our hearts mind and soul above everything else, period. In Jesus name Amen.
